Located in Chandigarh’s Sector 4, the
project responds to a mid-century modernist residence originally built
in the 1950s, extending it with sensitivity to both its architectural
language and its historic urban setting. The design approach prioritised
continuity rather than contrast, preserving the horizontal massing,
clean lines, and restrained material palette that define the original
structure.

Commissioned by Sr. Adv. Rajiv Atmaram and his family, the extension accommodates evolving domestic needs while maintaining the spatial clarity and garden-oriented character of the house. New residential additions are carefully aligned with existing volumes, allowing the landscape to remain the primary connective element between old and new. Transitional verandahs, shaded terraces, and framed views reinforce the indoor–outdoor relationship central to the original design ethos.
